The oldest animal in the roster and the region's memory keeper, Owl has studied the choral-coral formations and memory-glass seams of the caverns for decades, believing they record the Engine's old harmonics. Owl knows more about the Engine's original purpose than anyone alive — and shares it reluctantly, in fragments and riddles, because they believe understanding must be earned, not given.

Owl remembers stories from before the Silence deepened, when the world sounded different. Their life's work is a reconstruction: their predecessor decided the knowledge was too dangerous and began erasing it, and Owl has spent a lifetime rebuilding those losses from half-notes, coral scars, and memory-glass refractions.

When the memory-glass began echoing harmonics, Owl stayed deep in research, convinced the caverns hold the answer. The Censor is the predecessor — scholarship turned preemptive erasure, deletion patterns following the same indexing system in reverse. Owl wins by doing the thing they spent a lifetime avoiding: teaching plainly, in the open, where the knowledge can be used.

• Bear — Old friends longer than most characters have been alive; Bear is the only being who has seen Owl laugh.
• Hex — The only one who meets Owl on fully symbolic ground — debates that are half scholarship, half spell duel.
