Orientation

How it plays

A 1–4 player co-op action platformer where the world mutates mid-level. You are a Wondernaut — a small repair robot — walking into worlds that are actively malfunctioning.

Movement first

Everything in Wondernauts hangs off a tight, readable platforming kit: run, jump, wall contact, momentum. Levels are short and dense — a minute or three of concentrated idea — so the movement has to feel right immediately and stay interesting across 250+ stages.

Stomp

An aerial slam. Cracks armor, pounds switches, bounces off springy targets, and doubles as a descent brake when a drop gets ambitious.

Strike

A close-range melee hit. Fast, honest, and the backbone of combat — most enemies read cleanly off a well-timed strike.

Bolt

A ranged shot for targets you should not be standing next to. Slower than a strike, safer than a stomp.

Rescue play

Co-op in Wondernauts is built around getting each other back. A downed player becomes a ghost that drifts with the level; any teammate can fire the rescue lasso, reel the ghost in, and bring them back on the spot. Wipes only happen when the whole team goes down together — so the drama lives in the rescue, not the restart.

Wonder Rifts

Mid-level, the world malfunctions. A Wonder Rift rewrites the stage in place — gravity tilts, platforms migrate, the sky changes its mind — and then, usually, changes back. Rifts are why no two runs of the same level play identically, and why the team that adapts fastest wins the moment.

Badges and progression

Controllers and trials yield Wonder Badges: equipable abilities from a second jump to stranger machinery. Collected badges stay in your kit; boosters intensify them; co-op badges reward playing together. The badge handbook has the full register.

Frequently asked

What kind of game is Wondernauts?

A 1–4 player local co-op action platformer. Levels are short and dense in the Mario tradition, but the world is unstable: Wonder Rifts mutate the stage mid-run, and the team has to adapt on the fly.

How does co-op work?

Up to four players share one screen, drop-in/drop-out. When a player goes down they become a ghost; a teammate reels them back with the rescue lasso. The whole kit — movement, hazards, bosses — is designed around keeping everyone in play.

What are Wonder Badges?

Equipable abilities recovered from Controllers and trials: double jumps, charged strikes, movement tech. Every badge you collect stays available, and boosters push the effects further. See the badge handbook in the Field Guide.

What is a Controller?

The boss holding each biome in malfunction — and, in truth, a transformed local the malfunction took. Bringing a Controller down brings its host back. The Field Guide keeps a dossier on each of the 22.

Which platforms? When is it out?

PC via Steam, Steam Deck verified targets, release date to be announced. The free demo covers the Ancient Village and Heartroot Valley, ending at The Graft.

Is there a single-player mode?

Yes. The full campaign is playable solo, and the rescue systems scale down cleanly — co-op is additive, not required.
