Section 09 — Puzzle surveys

Surveyed Puzzle Rooms

FG-0915 rooms on record

Every puzzle room surveyed in the Ancient Village and Heartroot Valley. Each entry pairs a field capture with the realization the room is built to teach — recorded as found in the expedition's puzzle catalog, not paraphrased after the fact.

How to read a survey entry

Realization

The durable, transferable thought a player carries out of the room. The room is the delivery mechanism; the realization is the payload.

Lock & key

What blocks the goal, and what the Wondernaut uses to overcome it — a movement verb, a device, or the level key itself.

Recognition

The local cue — a gap's shape, a suspicious wall, a wired receiver — that lets the player notice the realization mid-room instead of being told it.

World 1 · Ancient Village

The first world surveyed. Every room here teaches one clean realization about jump, height, and reach — the vocabulary every later world assumes.

World 1 · Level 1 · Ancient Village

Village Market

easy
Field capture of Village Market (World 1, Level 1)

“The shape, height, and width of a gap can tell the player which jump variant, stance, or setup is required.”

“A movement solution can create access to an item that solves a later lock.”

— realization on record
GoalFollow a short vertical sequence of semisolid platforms to collect the room key, then return to the bottom route and open the exit gate.
LockA high platform holding the key out of reach.
KeyJump, the level key, the key gate.
OperationRead platform spacing and jump the ascent.
ConstraintThe key route must return to the bottom exit.
OutputOpened route.

World 1 · Level 2 · Ancient Village

Temple Rooftops

medium
Field capture of Temple Rooftops (World 1, Level 2)

“The shape, height, and width of a gap can tell the player which jump variant, stance, or setup is required.”

“Height can help the player interact with objects, not only reach platforms.”

“A movement solution can create access to an item that solves a later lock.”

— realization on record
GoalReuse the vertical key-platform ascent, but bonk through breakable blocks that visibly span it before collecting the room key.
LockA blocked vertical route sealed by breakable blocks.
KeyJump, breakable blocks, the level key, the key gate.
OperationBonk the blockers open on the way up, then climb.
ConstraintThe breakable row must span the full platform width.
OutputOpened route.

World 1 · Level 3 · Ancient Village

The Tremor

medium
Field capture of The Tremor (World 1, Level 3)

“Height can help the player interact with objects, not only reach platforms.”

“A refill, bounce, wall touch, or safe landing can restore an aerial resource and make a longer route possible.”

“A movement solution can create access to an item that solves a later lock.”

— realization on record
GoalBonk through the first high branch to earn Double Jump, then use the new aerial reach on a separated second branch to collect the key and return to the exit.
LockA split ascent: the easy line is closed off by low ceilings, the key line needs double jump.
KeyJump, breakable blocks, the Double Jump power-up, the level key, the key gate.
OperationClear the power branch first, then use double jump on the key branch.
ConstraintThe power branch must be solved before the key branch; a divider wall blocks a direct shortcut between them.
OutputOpened route.

World 1 · Level 4 · Ancient Village

Collapsing Corridors

Authored setpiece
Field capture of Collapsing Corridors (World 1, Level 4)

No catalog realization on file for this room; it is an authored setpiece rather than a catalog-backed recipe. The survey below is read from the room itself.

GoalBoard the floating platform at the collapsed-corridor drop and ride it end to end, clearing three obstacle bands with jump and duck, to reach the far side and hand off the Harmonic reward.
LockAn auto-scrolling ride gated by three obstacle bands (wall jumps, low pipes, linebreakers, boost ramps, duck-then-jump markers) that must be cleared in real time.
KeyThe jump/duck controls on the floating platform vehicle.
OperationTime jump and duck against the scrolling obstacle bands.
ConstraintIdle or shield-only input fails the ride; only correct jump/duck input survives it. The setpiece bridges a Summoner encounter to a Harmonic reward.
OutputThe platform breaks through a crumbling wall at the far end and releases the Harmonic reward.

Authored as a pure setpiece — no formal recipe or logic-contract record exists for this room in the puzzle catalogs.

World 1 · Level 5 · Ancient Village

Ascent from the Ruins

medium
Field capture of Ascent from the Ruins (World 1, Level 5)

“A vertical surface can become part of the route when the player treats wall contact as a jump origin.”

“Sliding down a wall can slow the player just enough to align with a platform, projectile, or hazard cycle.”

“A movement solution can create access to an item that solves a later lock.”

— realization on record
GoalCommit down the entry shaft, control the fall with a wall slide, wall-jump onto the key shelf, then return through the key gate.
LockA vertical shaft and an inventory lock on the exit gate.
KeyJump, the climbable wall, the level key, the key gate.
OperationWall-slide to control descent speed, then wall-jump onto the key shelf.
ConstraintThe shaft requires wall contact to descend safely; a plain jump cannot reach the key shelf.
OutputOpened route.

World 1 · Level 6 · Ancient Village

Halls of the Regulator

medium
Field capture of Halls of the Regulator (World 1, Level 6)

“An enemy, hazard, or object can become an extra jump surface when approached with the right timing or attack state.”

“An enemy can reject attacks from one side, height, or angle while accepting another.”

“Height can help the player interact with objects, not only reach platforms.”

— realization on record
GoalRead the low strike hint, use the respawning Sentry Idol as a bounce surface, then up-strike the elevated final switch to open the exit.
LockAn elevated switch on a guarded route.
KeyStrike, stomp, the Sentry Idol enemy, the switch lever, the gate.
OperationBounce off the sentry, then up-strike the switch from height.
ConstraintThe final switch is unreachable from an ordinary jump; the sentry must respawn so the bounce can never be exhausted into a softlock.
OutputOpened route.

This recipe covers only the up-strike Sentry bounce-switch puzzle. The three-wave moving-wall/spike gauntlet later in the level is a separate setpiece, not this recipe.

World 2 · Heartroot Valley

The Bolt enters the kit here. These rooms are built around line of sight, timing, and what a well-placed shot can stand in for.

World 2 · Level 1 · Heartroot Valley

Rootline Trail

easy
Field capture of Rootline Trail (World 2, Level 1)

“The player can solve a lock by creating or occupying the correct line of sight.”

“Crouching or entering a low stance can line up a different switch, weak point, floor block, or attack origin.”

“Height can help the player interact with objects, not only reach platforms.”

“Multiple bolt targets can require an order, count, or timing relationship before a route unlocks.”

— realization on record
GoalFrom a raised perch across an unjumpable chasm, hit two far switches: one through a low duck-shot lane, one at double-jump apex height.
LockA remote target pair, both out of ordinary reach.
KeyBolt, duck, jump, the switch levers, the multi-switch coordinator, the gate.
OperationAim and fire Bolt from two different stances at two different switches.
ConstraintThe chasm exceeds the lateral jump distance; the far shelf blocks a point-blank walk-up bypass.
OutputOpened route.

World 2 · Level 2 · Heartroot Valley

Foxfire Targetwalk

easy
Field capture of Foxfire Targetwalk (World 2, Level 2)

“The player can solve a lock by creating or occupying the correct line of sight.”

“Range, spread, rapid fire, piercing, bounce, or return behavior can be the actual key rather than projectile damage.”

“A strike can test cracked, suspicious, or brittle material to reveal a route, reward, key, or changed collision state.”

— realization on record
GoalShoot through a marked breakable wall that occludes the firing lane, then hit the newly exposed switch to open the exit.
LockA breakable route hiding a remote target.
KeyBolt, the breakable wall, the switch lever, the gate.
OperationShoot the wall open, then shoot the switch behind it.
ConstraintThe wall must occlude the switch before it breaks; the switch is not reachable point-blank.
OutputOpened route.

World 2 · Level 3 · Heartroot Valley

The Sunken Path

medium
Field capture of The Sunken Path (World 2, Level 3)

“A visible counter can make collection or destruction progress itself the key to a lock.”

“A temporary opening or safe moment is itself the route.”

“A temporary solution can be used to create a permanent state, freeing the tool for another lock.”

— realization on record
GoalStand on the summoner pad, accept the temporary cage lock, and bolt every incoming gallery brick to release the room and spawn the Harmonic reward.
LockA multi-target lock paired with route commitment — you cannot leave until the wave clears.
KeyBolt, breakable blocks, the monster generator, the multi-switch coordinator.
OperationClear every seeded gallery brick with Bolt before the cage releases.
ConstraintThe cage must release only after the last target falls; wave resets must not be able to softlock the room.
OutputOpened route and a Harmonic reward.

World 2 · Level 4 · Heartroot Valley

Broken Crossing

Authored setpiece
Field capture of Broken Crossing (World 2, Level 4)

No catalog realization on file for this room; it is an authored setpiece rather than a catalog-backed recipe. The survey below is read from the room itself.

GoalRide the level's moving root platform across the broken crossing, using its firing window to hit two Bolt targets — one breakable brick, one charged-only brick — and clear a target-clear gate before reaching the far shelf.
LockA target-clear gate placed beyond the moving platform's far endpoint, plus in-transit obstacles.
KeyBolt, fired from the moving platform's firing window; one energy refill supports the charged shot.
OperationFire Bolt at both targets during the ride, charging for the second.
ConstraintExactly one target-clear coordinator, two Bolt targets, one gate, one moving firing window, and one energy refill are instantiated per room; the room reuses the level's own ride rather than spawning a duplicate platform.
OutputOpened route to a stable valley shelf and the exit gate.

A setpiece/target-clear construct — its own ideas.json cites a puzzle_recipe_id that does not actually exist in the puzzle catalogs, so no formal recipe or logic-contract record backs this room.

World 2 · Level 5 · Heartroot Valley

Canopy Rookery

medium
Field capture of Canopy Rookery (World 2, Level 5)

“The player can solve a lock by creating or occupying the correct line of sight.”

“A tool can be left behind to maintain a state while the player moves elsewhere.”

“Launch affordances can act on objects and enemies, not only players.”

— realization on record
GoalClimb to a fixed firing perch, shoot through a wall aperture to sever a rope, and let the suspended crate fall onto the pressure plate that holds the exit open.
LockA distant pressure plate behind a held gate.
KeyBolt, the swinging tether/rope, the movable crate, the pressure plate, the gate.
OperationShoot the rope from the one clean perch angle so the crate drops onto the plate.
ConstraintThe perch is the only clean shot on the rope; the crate's drop path must land on the plate.
OutputOpened route.

World 2 · Level 6 · Heartroot Valley

Floodmarked Shrine

medium
Field capture of Floodmarked Shrine (World 2, Level 6)

“A temporary opening or safe moment is itself the route.”

“Multiple bolt targets can require an order, count, or timing relationship before a route unlocks.”

“The important timing can be when to crouch, slide, stand, or jump back up rather than when to enter the room.”

— realization on record
GoalFrom a central perch, shoot two switches on opposite walls — one duck-shot, one stand-shot — inside one shared timing window.
LockA timing cycle gating a two-part lock.
KeyBolt, duck, jump, the switch levers, the multi-switch coordinator, the gate.
OperationReposition stance between the two shots inside the shared window.
ConstraintThe timer must cover the intended stance change; the two switch heights must demand genuinely distinct aims.
OutputOpened route.

World 2 · Level 7 · Heartroot Valley

Bough Snare

easy
Field capture of Bough Snare (World 2, Level 7)

“Height can help the player interact with objects, not only reach platforms.”

“The player can solve a lock by creating or occupying the correct line of sight.”

— realization on record
GoalReach the marked high perch and use its unique sightline to bolt the raised far-side switch and open the exit.
LockA high platform holding the only sightline to a remote target.
KeyJump, Bolt, the switch lever, the gate.
OperationClimb to the perch, then fire on the switch.
ConstraintThe floor stance has no clean shot; the target window is visible only from the perch.
OutputOpened route.

One of three room-contracts in the level, alongside a combat intro beat and a wall-jump traversal-mastery beat that are not puzzle-recipe-backed.

World 2 · Level 8 · Heartroot Valley

Returnshot Boughs

medium
Field capture of Returnshot Boughs (World 2, Level 8)

“A target or blocker can reject normal bolts but accept a charged bolt after a readable charge window.”

“A moving target, shield, or opening can require shooting at the moment the projectile lane aligns.”

“Multiple cycles can be solved by aligning their phases rather than reacting to each one.”

“The player can solve a lock by creating or occupying the correct line of sight.”

— realization on record
GoalCharge Bolt on the shooting perch and release it exactly when the moving platform carries the shielded switch through the open shot lane.
LockA moving, shielded target.
KeyCharged Bolt, the moving platform, the switch lever, the gate.
OperationCharge, then release timed to the carrier's cycle.
ConstraintAn uncharged bolt must visibly fail; a full carrier cycle must be observable before the player commits.
OutputOpened route.

World 2 · Level 9 · Heartroot Valley

Heartroot Ascent

complex
Field capture of Heartroot Ascent (World 2, Level 9)

“A target or blocker can reject normal bolts but accept a charged bolt after a readable charge window.”

“A visible counter can make collection or destruction progress itself the key to a lock.”

“A consumable or fragile resource must be saved for the lock that actually needs it.”

“A temporary opening or safe moment is itself the route.”

— realization on record
GoalSurvive a denser summoner-cage reprise and use charged bolts to break heavy shielded gallery bricks before the final Harmonic release.
LockA multi-target lock with shielded targets and full route commitment.
KeyCharged Bolt, breakable blocks, the monster generator, the multi-switch coordinator.
OperationSave charge for the heavy bricks while managing wave pacing.
ConstraintOrdinary bolts cannot clear the heavy bricks; charge energy and wave pacing must still allow completion.
OutputOpened route and a Harmonic reward.

This is the game's hardest confirmed puzzle by the recipe's own numeric dimensions — highest novelty, branching, and composition count of the roster.

Beyond the surveyed worlds, rooms are drawn from a shared repertoire: the pattern library (159 modules across 18 action pools).
