First-screen wonder and the masonry platform vocabulary; a family's route knowledge turned into sealed passages.
Survey notes
The village grew up around one of the Engine's main surface access points: a stone plaza laid directly over a primary conduit junction. Generations of Cat's family built a trading town into the ruins, working Engine infrastructure into their architecture without fully understanding it. Market stalls drain through conduit channels. The temple walls carry circuit reliefs everyone assumed were decorative. The plaza mosaic is a system diagnostic display, and always has been.
Every road in the region bends through here eventually. Mountain folk, canopy dwellers, and underground travelers all came to trade, and the village became the social center of the world. It is also where our record begins: Volt, junior maintenance worker, arrived on a half-day repair ticket, followed a glitch deeper than the work order allowed, and opened a sealed Wondernaut chamber no modern map contained.
The dormant root harmonic seed Volt touched woke the Engine for one moment, and the village answered by recomposing itself — staircases rotating, walls sliding, familiar rooms rearranging into new routes. The Regulator rose in emergency mode to clamp the frequency it believed was dangerous. Defeating it released the Source Harmonic, the first of the five Heartroot anchors. Then the Warden came through a door that was not on any diagram, lifted the Regulator's failing shell away with magnet-lock telekinesis, and left Cat staring at a family technique worn by a stranger.
Field note: the village was never broken. Neither was the Engine beneath it. Everything that follows is the story of learning the difference.
