Disposition
Adaptive, non-committal, philosophical about identity. Watches more than speaks, but the stillness is patience, not paralysis — surprisingly decisive when a moment demands action.
Field record
Chameleon is the Flower Canyon's resident survivalist and the region's most elusive character. The canyon's constantly shifting colors are the perfect environment for an adaptive being — Chameleon shifts with the flora, invisible at will, observing everything and committing to nothing.
Despite the reclusiveness, Chameleon is one of the region's most capable scouts: they can infiltrate any zone undetected, observe unnoticed, and report back with perfect recall. They refuse to be called a spy — they prefer 'interested observer.' The distinction matters to them.
When the colors began shifting too fast to match, Chameleon was, for once, visible against their will. The flattening behind it is the Monoculture — the canyon's old pollination coordinator, who forced every flower, bee route, and color cycle into one safe recipe and imprisoned the bee civilization in sourcorn labor. Chameleon watched the variety flatten and thought it was panic. It was capture.
Known associations
- Volt — Chameleon has saved Volt from hazards three times by appearing from nowhere; Volt finds being followed more comforting than creepy.
- Owl — Owl once answered Chameleon's question about identity — 'You are what remains when you stop changing' — and Chameleon organized a whole philosophy around it.
- Bear — Chameleon drops camouflage at Bear's entrance like removing armor; Bear treats them without asking what is underneath.
- Cat — Cat's eyes are good enough to spot Chameleon four times out of five, which makes Chameleon simultaneously respectful and nervous.
“I am not a spy. I am an interested observer.”
