Field summary
Coral-frozen harmonics and memory-glass mirages; deletion scars, sound-tested routes, and the Song Harmonic diagnostic tone.
Survey notes
Natural caves that intersect the Engine's mineral processing network. The coral-like formations are the Engine's sensory archive — field recordings of what the world sounded, looked, and felt like during its operational period. Tube coral, fan coral, organ-pipe ribs, and rare memory-glass seams store ecological data and environmental harmonics: the world's memory, not the Engine's decisions. Owl has studied them for years, believing they hold the key to what the Engine used to sound like.
The malfunction makes the archive replay at random. Refractions conjure phantom platforms and false walls; vibrations make real platforms fragile. And occasionally a coral pipe plays one clear, sustained note — a genuine fragment of the Engine's original music — and everything in the cavern aligns into a moment of perfect clarity before dissolving.
Owl treats these sounds as diagnosis, not atmosphere: a healthy Engine pulse has contour, timing, rests, and return; a malfunction has force but no listening. The caverns teach the player to test a route, a platform, a memory by sound before the Censor deletes it. The resolution is not that the archive is saved — it is that one central chamber holds a stable tone again, a reference heartbeat for the road down to the Foundry.
