Built to transmit data between Engine subsystems, Spark is stationed at Ice Spire's lightning relays and frozen launch systems, where cloud lightning is paired with plasma-channel heat to send repair pods toward the Orbital Ring. Spark validates the Launch Harmonic, relays final messages, and keeps launch telemetry alive as long as possible — knowing the ring still needs the world-level broadcast feed to carry the Engine's music.

Spark is the reason the crew functioned as a team despite being scattered across the region. Everyone's messages pass through them, so Spark knows everyone's business: gossip, rumors, fragments of conversation from every zone. And because Spark has been listening to the Engine's transmissions for their entire existence, they noticed the Silence was weakening before anyone else did.

The corruption hits Spark hardest. Processing more signal data than any other crew member, they experience it as static, sensory glitches, and intrusive thoughts they don't recognize as Aria's. Their speech fragments under stress. Occasionally they relay messages that no one sent.

When the lightning relays began overdriving, Spark routed emergency traffic through Radar Thicket — then descended there when the towers began rebroadcasting corrupted fragments in their own voice. The jammer behind it is the Static: Spark's predecessor from the tower circuit, whose decommissioning was filed as signal continuity protocol. The Static knows every frequency and cadence Spark uses, because it was once the one who used them.

The recognition, when it comes, is a fragment of an old message in the predecessor's voice — a message Spark was supposed to receive but never did. Woodpecker finds the same rhythm in the tower-tone catalog, proving the jammed signal was once a playable harmonic rather than random noise. The robot who transmits and the bird who pecks at the transmitters, working the same proof from opposite ends.

Known associations

• Volt — Best friends on the crew; they were the last two robots in contact when the malfunction scattered the team.
• Woodpecker — Relay partners and history's most productive odd couple — Spark realized before anyone that Woodpecker's tones matched fragments of the Engine's broadcast.
• Hex — Spark is one of the few who sees that Hex's best conclusions arrive by instinct first and explanation second.
• Bear — Bear's grotto is the quietest place in the region, and Bear doesn't ask Spark to talk — the kindest thing anyone does for them.
• Chameleon — Spark is the only being who can locate Chameleon — by signal, not sight — and has kept it as their one secret.
