The tallest being in the region, Giraffe belongs to the Bamboo Thicket's monastery tradition. Giraffes meditate in shrine clearings above hidden underground wells, keeping the grove's rhythm: when to cut, when to wait, when to let the path close, and when to keep a refuge hidden. Their height makes them an unparalleled scout — they see over the thicket's walls when no one else can.

Seeing the world from higher up gives Giraffe a different understanding of geography; they catch landscape patterns that ground-level beings miss, and meditative discipline keeps them from reacting to every burst of growth. The cost is a social gap — always looking down at conversations, always slightly removed from eye level.

Now Blackcoil moves through the hidden wells faster than the monks can trace it, and Giraffe tends the dry-spell refuge without exposing it. Blackcoil was a wellkeeper of the monastery — protective secrecy twisted into predation, still moving in the old tending pattern. Giraffe recognizes the spacing for what it was meant to be.

• Cat — Cat sometimes rides on Giraffe's back through the thicket, which neither mentions because it would ruin Cat's reputation.
• Spark — Giraffe serves as a living antenna above the bamboo canopy and doesn't mind; Spark is grateful in an effusive, overtalkative way.
• Woodpecker — Giraffe's offhand remark about resonant bamboo groves became a full collaboration mapping the thicket's frequencies.
• Frog — The shortest and the tallest — their conversations require Giraffe to lie down, and neither has tired of the joke.
