Field summary
Detecting-the-hidden biome; monk-tended wells, resonant growth chimes, false walls, and a held 360-degree prismatic Scanner cone.
Survey notes
A zone where life proves it cannot be constrained. After Hollowmere's drawdown ruined the grasslands, the thicket survived the dry spells because the monks preserved a system of hidden underground wells. The bamboo is partly natural and partly Engine-grown: it waits out drought, drinks quietly from buried water, and comes back faster than anyone can cut it down. Farm Town has tried to clear it for land. Cut paths close; fence posts vanish into shoots.
The monastery is the biome's center, a keeper institution built around the hidden wells, with a discipline of stillness as diagnosis: read wind, chime resonance, stalk spacing, and buried water before cutting anything. The player learns the Scanner contract through this practice — a held prismatic light that aims into air, walls, stalks, and straight down into the ground, revealing hidden doors, well hollows, chimes, false walls, and buried root motion.
Blackcoil turns the thicket's gift against itself. The hidden places that sheltered life from drought become ambush routes, and the giant snake slips through wells and root tunnels, evading ordinary watchfulness. The biome is resolved not by burning the hiding places down but by finding what hides in them — secrecy made shelter again, not predation.
