The Tide Brood Nest is not a Controller and has no host. It is a parasitic egg-clutch that formed around a maintenance vent inside the leviathan — a symptom of the great creature's corrupted heart rhythm, which causes its immune system to treat Wondernauts and a stranded Engine maintenance crew as invaders.
The nest keeps hatching Hollowmere fish into the gut as defensive bodies and resealing the safe passage behind them. It is a sickness doing what sickness does: making more defenders because the body cannot tell helpers from invaders.
Clearing it opens the first reliable vent deeper into the biome and proves the leviathan's immune response is sick rather than malicious. The true climax of the gut lies beyond it: the corrupted leviathan heart can only be restored with the Cleansing Mist of the Fungal Grotto.
