The host
Custodian was identified as: Volt's training supervisor. Approach accordingly — the objective is recovery, not destruction.
The Ancient Village victory did not destroy the Regulator. At the moment his shell began to collapse, the Warden intervened — stabilizing the failing body with lower-temple route magic and carrying him away before the party could reach the person inside. The Source Harmonic remained with the Wondernauts, but the host remained with the Silence.
He returned in the Foundry at full strength, no longer a remote enforcement body but the complete Controller: fabrication lines, build records, bot generators, command denial, compliance tests, and diagnostic patterns Volt recognized from training. He came to steal back the Source Harmonic — the Foundry awards no new frequency, only the defense of one already won.
The rematch ends in exposure rather than explosion. When the armor fails, the helmet comes off, and beneath it is a maintenance-drone face like Volt's own — older, stricter, familiar. For a moment the protocol voice drops, and the supervisor is reachable. Field note: this is the encounter that teaches what every later Controller fight confirms. Defeating a Controller does not kill the host. It frees them.
Field notes — combat protocol
The full-strength duel: fabrication lines and bot generators turned against the party, command denial that hijacks obedient machines, and the same predictive pressure as the village shell — now with nowhere to retreat.
