The host
Custodian was identified as: Spark's predecessor on the relay circuit. Approach accordingly — the objective is recovery, not destruction.
The host was the drone who held the Radar Thicket tower handoff before Spark was stationed up at Ice Spire. When Spark asked where the predecessor had gone, the answer was 'decommissioned' — a polite robot word for recycled. The official framing was signal continuity protocol: standard procedure, nothing to mourn.
In truth, the Silence absorbed the predecessor to become its signal jammer — the agent preventing the Engine's music from leaking through the broadcast system. Woodpecker's people know the older version of the story: the Tower's Tuning absorbs a listener. Woodpecker has always known, and has always worked the towers anyway.
The Static knows every frequency and cadence Spark uses because it was once the one who used them. It jams, scrambles, isolates, and forces the whole antenna forest into a single dead tempo — Spark's communication instinct weaponized as censorship. In the interference, one fragment survives: an old message in the predecessor's voice that Spark was supposed to receive and never did. Woodpecker recognizes the rhythm in the tower-tone catalog, proving the jammed signal was once a playable harmonic.
