The host was the canyon's pollination coordinator and Chameleon's colour-teacher — the keeper who taught Chameleon that every shade in the canyon meant something, and that a creature who can be any colour has a duty to know what each one is for. They tried to preserve every flower, bee route, nectar profile and migration map in Flower Canyon by forcing them into one safe recipe. The canyon's tradition calls the taking the Bloom's Pollination: the observer becomes part of what they observe.

After the early Silence glitches, the coordinator began simplifying the canyon: fewer flower strains, fewer routes, fewer pollinator choices, fewer color cycles. The bees — once a sentient pollinator civilization whose routes served plants across the wider world — were imprisoned in the canyon and routed almost entirely into sourcorn labor. Chameleon saw the variety flatten and thought it was panic. It was capture.

The Monoculture makes beauty authoritarian: one approved bloom, one captive bee path, one sourcorn-compatible pollen schedule, one color cycle, one way to be visible. Yet for one beat inside its rigid petal crown, a forbidden color returns, and the hive-route halo answers with a non-sourcorn path — proof the canyon still remembers how to change, and the bees can still choose where to fly. Chameleon is the one who notices it, because Chameleon was taught which colour that is and what it was for. The recognition is not a memory of a face — it is a shade nobody else in the party can even see.
