The host

Custodian was identified as: Frog's exploration partner. Approach accordingly — the objective is recovery, not destruction.

The host was another water-creature who shared Frog's love of sewer ruins, sluice gates, and impossible shortcuts — the partner who never turned back from a passage first. Together they knew the basin's flow the way others know their own homes.

They found a control passage deeper than any they had explored, part of the old failed system built to command the basin. They went in. The water stopped flowing. Frog found the passage sealed — not by rock, but by a living sludge mass wrapped around something that was once their friend. Mangrove tradition calls it the Gate That Stayed Shut: the old ruins take a swimmer when the basin refuses another attempt to control it.

The Clog believes open flow is what gets people lost. It gums pipes, drains, and root tunnels, turning Frog's network into a trap to make the mangrove safe by sealing every shortcut. Its blockage pattern mirrors the partner's swimming style — the same fluid route knowledge, now used to stop everything from moving. The friend inside is not trying to destroy the basin. They are trying to make sure no one ever disappears into an open passage again.

Field notes — combat protocol

A giant amphibian-serpent that hops between flooded chambers, squirts slime to gum up platforms and valves, and fires a tongue shot that yanks one player toward a chomp window while the rest of the party counterattacks.
