Survey notes
The canopy formed when the jungle grew tall enough to reach the Engine's elevated transport infrastructure. Vine bridges grew along abandoned cable routes; branch platforms formed where the canopy touches the feeder lines running toward Radar Thicket's towers. This is the fast-travel layer between surface and sky, and the living first mile of the Up branch's broadcast circuit.
Parrot runs a lookout post from the highest branches, and their canopy news service is not gossip — it is an organic public-safety network older than the machines: warning calls, route songs, weather chants, and eyewitness reports carried branch to branch. Parrot repeats what they hear, but repetition is not the point. Parrot adds timing, context, suspicion, jokes, and care. The Up branch's central question starts here: what is the difference between a living signal and a dead loop?
Radar Thicket's jammed signal bleeds backward through the feeder lines, and in the mist sub-regions echoes arrive before the original sound. Some defeated enemies repeat as copies unless the echo source is broken. The Echo, Parrot's former song-teacher, is the nightmare version of Parrot's gift: perfect memory without judgment, old songs sung backward. The resolution is not Parrot learning to be quiet. It is Parrot changing the teacher's old song — proving that truth survives by being retold, not frozen.
