The host
Custodian was identified as: Cat's grandmother. Approach accordingly — the objective is recovery, not destruction.
The host was the previous village guardian — Cat's grandmother, who mapped even more of the Engine infrastructure than Cat has. She went into the temple's lower levels and never came back. Her name is carved on the temple wall with the other taken. Cat knows the tradition. Cat did not know grandma became the Warden.
The Wondernauts met her before they understood her: moments after the Regulator's defeat in the Ancient Village, she arrived through a door that was not on Volt's diagrams, stabilized the failing shell with blue magnet-lock telekinesis, fought the party briefly, won through a scripted stun, and escaped into the lower temple with the Regulator. Cat recognized the door trigger as a family technique but could not yet name what that meant.
The Warden knows every passage because grandma mapped them first — and has sealed them all. Knowledge as control instead of independence. When the Engine ruptures the Ancient Village open, she can no longer hide in the lower levels, and the rematch becomes Cat's recognition fight and the rift-closing climax: the party reopens the routes she sealed, Cat rejects inherited knowledge as control, and her defeat frees the village's hidden passages for evacuation, harmonizes the final rift focus, and opens the way to the Harmonic Manifold.
Field notes — combat protocol
Route control made physical: magnet-lock telekinesis that grabs doors, shells, and players, a suspended helpless hold, then a pouncing spear punish unless the party breaks the grip.
